The short version: the person who receives your message never sees who sent it. We do keep a small amount of technical data (like IP addresses) to stop spam and abuse, and the site uses analytics and ads. This page explains exactly what and why.
1. Information We Collect
If you create a profile
- Profile information: your display name, username and optional profile picture.
- Sign-in details: if you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address and name to create and secure your account.
- Messages you receive: the anonymous messages sent to your link, plus the game or prompt they were sent from.
- Settings: safety settings such as hidden words and whether your link is paused.
If you send a message
- The message text you write.
- Your IP address is stored with the message on our server, only to prevent spam and abuse and to respond to valid legal requests. It is never shown to the recipient or any other user.
Collected automatically
- Server logs: IP address, browser type, pages requested and time of visit, kept for security and troubleshooting.
- Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, device type, approximate country, referring site). It uses cookies or similar identifiers.
- Push notifications (optional): if you allow notifications, your browser gives us a push subscription token so we can alert you about new messages.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To run the service: show your profile to people who open your link and deliver messages to your inbox.
- To keep it safe: block spam, enforce our Terms of Service and protect users.
- To send the notifications you turned on.
- To measure and improve the site.
- To show ads that keep the service free (see section 5).
3. Sender Anonymity
- Recipients never see the sender's name, account, IP address or any other identifying detail.
- We will not reveal who sent a message to a recipient or any other user.
- We may disclose stored technical data only when required by law, or when necessary to protect someone from serious harm.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers that help us run the site: hosting, Google (Analytics and Google Sign-In / Firebase Authentication) and browser push services.
- Advertising partners described in section 5.
- Authorities when required by law or to prevent serious harm.
5. Cookies and Advertising
We use cookies for sign-in sessions, analytics and advertising. The site shows ads from third-party networks, which may include Google AdSense, Adsterra and Notix.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

6. Data Security

- Pause your link or set hidden words from your dashboard at any time.
- Turn off notifications in your browser's site settings.
- Access or delete your data: send a request through our contact form using the subject "Privacy Concern" and include your username. We will delete your account, profile and messages.
8. Data Retention
- Accounts and messages: kept while your account is active and deleted when you ask us to delete your account.
- Server logs: kept for a limited period for security, then rotated.
9. Children's Privacy
TellMeAnything is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an account, we will delete it.
10. International Users
Our servers may be located outside your country. By using the service you understand that your information may be processed in other countries, whose data protection laws may differ from yours.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and update the "Last Updated" date.
